Gabonese president, Ali Bongo Ondimba has announced that his country will create 20 marine protected areas. This consist of nine marine parks and 11 aquatic reserves covering 26% of Gabon’s territorial waters.
The Gabonese leader was speaking at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Monday, June 08, 2017.
“As I have often argued, we cannot approach sustainable management solely from conservation. On the contrary, we must also tackle this issue through the rational use of the environment to give more meaning to its preservation by the people who live in it,” said Mr. Ondimba.
